Meteorologists had predicted scattered showers throughout the day, but not only did rain never arrive in the scenic wine country,
the sun broke through before the event’s shotgun start, providing a magnificent backdrop to the picturesque course.

“The day has been fantastic,” said Community Fund executive director Sue Petersen. “The whole crew here at this course has been very hospitable and friendly, and they brought wonderful weather to this golf tournament.”

“We are usually all full of alums, but we were very happy to have three young guys give their time to the tournament this year,” said Petersen. “Holm, Bowker and Yabu have jumped right in, gotten to know our donors, gotten to know our staff better, too, and I think they really helped to make this tournament very special this year.”

Holm arrived at the course with a new nickname, having been dubbed “Shark” at a hospitality event the night before when he showed off his formidable skills at pool.

“It’s pretty fun getting out here with some people that you haven’t met and playing some golf. It’s a good time,” said Holm. “Thank God it’s not raining. It’s been gorgeous all day.”

The tournament’s proceeds benefit the Fund’s flagship program, Junior Giants baseball, which provides free, non-competitive leagues that teach baseball fundamentals and emphasize self-esteem, education, teamwork and leadership. More than 15,000 children, most from areas underserved by traditional baseball leagues, participate from Oregon to Bakersfield, Calif., and east to Las Vegas.
