Rantin Power of the Purse auction raises funds for womens causes

They came with their purses and their passion for the community.
Midlands women, several hundred strong, turned out at the Capital City Club in Columbia Wednesday evening for the 2009 Power of the Purse, the signature event of Women in Philanthropy. “You don’t leave home without your purse, even if there is nothing in it. But tonight we’re hoping they’ll have something in them,” said Carolyn Sawyer of the Tom Sawyer Company, who hosted the event. Women gather at the Capital City Club for Women in Philanthropy’s signature event, Power of the Purse. Proceeds from the event benefit women and children’s charities throughout the midlands. Proceeds will go to the Women in Philanthropy general fund, which supports a variety of charitable efforts targeted to women’s and children’s services.
