Saturdays Ride with the Champions charity bike event postponed to

Tropical Storm Danny isn’t even in Massachusetts yet, and it is already wrecking havoc.
Special Olympics of Massachusetts was forced to postpone Saturday’s fifth annual Ride with the Champions, a charity cycling event along the North Shore, due to the pending storm. Based on information obtained from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Hurricane Center and the National Weather Service forecast, the predicted conditions are much too hazardous for participants. The Ride with the Champions will still begin and end at the Topsfield Fairgrounds, 207 Boston St., Topsfield. The Ride is a 62-mile metric century course, 22-miles, and 12-mile Family Fun course. The course will go through Topsfield, Wenham, Hamilton, Beverly, Manchester-by-the-Sea, Essex and Ipswich. Everyone is encouraged to make a commitment to Special Olympics athletes and a healthy lifestyle today. Registration has reopened. For more information on Ride with the Champions or to register, go to www.RidewiththeChampions.com or call 1-888-767-RACE. Participants may enter as individuals or as a team. All proceeds from the Ride with the Champions will help fund uniforms, equipment, year-round training, competition costs and more for local Special Olympics athletes. Through sports training and competition, and the increased exposure to quality healthcare screenings and professionals, individuals with intellectual disabilities are living healthy, vibrant lives by their association with Special Olympics.
