Bobby Robson Cancer Charity – a fitting tribute to the kind-hearted football legend Sir Bobby Robson was celebrated during the fourth anniversary of his foundation that hit its major milestone. The initial aim was to raise 500,000 to provide cancer trials research centre at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care (NCCC) at Newcastles Freeman Hospital a goal attained in just seven weeks.
The committed Bobby Robson set up his foundation in 2008 and worked with scientists to support the development of cancer treatments. He remained passionately involved for the last 18 months of his life despite being tremendously sick.
The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation funds projects within the Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that benefit cancer patients from across the North East and Cumbria, including clinical tests for cancer medications.
The foundation has also financed leukemia laboratory research equipment and donated to the Royal Victoria Infirmarys teenage cancer unit in Newcastle.
There is also a project with Newcastle University and has bought an ultra-compact ABT Molecular Imaging Biomarker Generator, which will aid the finding and treatment of cancer.
