Hadassah North Shore Chapter will include two mitzvah (good deed) projects: The North Shore Chapter, 3000 Dundee Road, Unit 313, in Northbrook, will be
a drop off location for non-perishable food with current dating, cleaning supplies and different paper products for the Northfield Food Pantry. Also, Shalva, a shelter for women, is requesting donations of used cell phones and gift cards from major food stores and gas stations. Co-chairs are Ruth Arkiss and Frank Hakimian of Northbrook. Maryville Academy’s Junior Board will host the Zoppe Family Circus at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. Aug. 21 1:30, 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. Aug. 22 and 2:30 and 5:30 p.m. Aug. 23 at the campus, 1150 N. River Road in Des Plaines. Tickets are $15 for adults ($20 at the gate) children under 12 are $10 ($15 at the gate). Toddlers 3 and under are free. The Bellows Shoppe at 1048 Gage St. in Winnetka will work to help raise funds for Best Buddies, an organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities for one-to-one friendships and integrated employment. Owner Steven Schmid will be running in the 2009 Chicago Marathon on the Best Buddies team and on Aug. 21 and 22, all proceeds from lamp repairs will go to Best Buddies Illinois. Mission Hills and the Glencoe/Northbrook/Winnetka groups of Hadassah North Shore Chapter will host the seventh annual Dinner for Youth Aliyah/Children at Risk at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 27 at the Mission Hills Country Club, 1677 Mission Hills Road in Northbrook.
The guest speaker will be Marcia Weiland of Northbrook, past president of the North Shore Chapter. Musical entertainment will be Jeff and Janis presenting an evening of Jewish cabaret.
