Moonlight Movies is having a backyard cookout and showing a movie Saturday night.
Fight Club, the movie starring Brad Pitt and Ed Norton adapted from the Chuck Palahniuk book of the same name, will start at 9 p.m. outside of Cinebarre. Bring your own blankets, lawn chairs or whatever you want to spread out on, and enjoy the movie with surround sound in Cinebarre’s outdoor amphitheatre. The cookout starts at 8:30 p.m. and will include burgers, hot dogs, chips and cookies. Beer, sodas and popcorn will also be sold. There is no charge for the movie. For more information, go online. Homecoming is throwing a Welcome Home party for its newest artist, Julio Cotto, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Cotto, who was most recently in the Upstate, has a distinct comic and graphic edge to his paintings. He has been awarded the title of “Best Local Artist” by the Charleston City Paper. Fans, friends and colleagues are invited to drop in at Scoop and say hello. Then stick around to check out Cotto’s most recent work. There is no charge to attend the party. For more information, go online. Beach tennis Sure, there’s always beach volleyball on the Isle of Palms, but this weekend there will be beach tennis, during the Charleston Open. Beach tennis combines tennis and beach volleyball – using the racquets from tennis and playing on beach volleyball courts. The first tour launched in Charleston in 2005 and has traveled up the East Coast as well as to the West Coast. On Saturday and Sunday, watch professionals and amateurs play on the beach in front of The Windjammer. The action starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, with finals on Sunday. It all concludes with an after-party at 7 p.m. Sunday at The Windjammer. For more information, go online.
