The Writers came back in the bottom of the first with six runs, creating expectations of a slugfest. That was not to be though, the game staying 6-2 until the fifth inning when the Artists made the most of some lackluster fielding to tie the score. In the sixth inning, another error-aided rally gave the Artists a 9-6 lead but not for long, the Writers tying the score in the bottom of the sixth. In the seventh, the Writers scored one to go up 10-9, but the Artists matched that run in the top of the eighth. Unfazed, the Writers scored again in the bottom of the eighth only to see the Artists tie the game again in the top of the ninth. When the Artists failed to score in their half of the tenth, the game seemed sure to go into the eleventh, the first two Writers going down easily in the bottom of the tenth. But then the unexpected happened, an infield error putting the go-ahead run on for the Writers. A slow bunt-like roller by the next batter
