Content ID: Field: The National Charity League aims to help mothers and daughters get to know each other better by helping their community.
In Baton Rouge, the league works through its River Road Chapter. Chapter volunteers recently helped out with the CASA Kids Day, a children’s safety fair at the Mall of Louisiana that included entertainment and safety demonstrations and that closed out the Casas for CASA 2009 playhouse fundraiser. Jessica Alleyne, a CASA recruitment coordinator, said that the National Charity League volunteers as usual helped make the event a success. “Anytime we have a special event they usually come out and just help with activities — help set up and take down,” Alleyne said. CASA raised more than $80,000 with its three-week fundraiser, which concluded with the giving away of a professionally built elaborate playhouse. Mike Pitts was this year’s winner.
CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates and is an organization that uses volunteers to help speak up for children who are being mistreated.
