People living in rural and remote areas can face significant challenges accessing healthcare, particularly when specialist or emergency medical services are located far from home. Aeromedical services help bridge these distances by bringing essential healthcare to communities that may otherwise have limited access to timely medical care.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) provides vital healthcare and aeromedical services to people living in rural and remote Australia. Its Charleville base plays an important role in supporting communities throughout western Queensland, helping provide medical care both in the air and on the ground.
The 2026 Charleville Hangar Ball will return in October 31 2026 at the historic WWII Aircraft Hangar in Charleville, bringing together RFDS staff, local residents, and surrounding communities for an evening of celebration and connection. The annual event provides an opportunity to recognise the vital role the RFDS plays in providing services to rural and remote Queenslanders, while celebrating the strong partnership between the Flying Doctor and the communities it serves.
In the last financial year, the Charleville base recorded more than 3,000 RFDS landings, transported over 1,300 patients, and conducted more than 5,000 patient consultations. These figures demonstrate the significant role the service plays in supporting people across the region. Guests at the Hangar Ball will enjoy an evening featuring live entertainment, canapés throughout the evening, and a bar and cocktails by QLD Western Spirits.
The event also provides an opportunity for the Charleville community and RFDS staff to come together and acknowledge the people whose generosity and support help keep the Flying Doctor operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Charleville Hangar Ball is more than an evening of entertainment—it is a celebration of community, rural healthcare, and the people who help ensure Queenslanders living in remote areas can access vital medical services.
Join here for the 2026 Charleville Hangar Ball and celebrate the RFDS and the communities helping keep the Flying Doctor in the air and on the ground.
