For millions of children around the world, getting clean water means walking long distances every day, often carrying heavy containers instead of spending time in school or enjoying their childhood. World Vision Hong Kong is working to change this reality by raising funds for water infrastructure that brings safer drinking water closer to communities in need.
Global 6K for Water returns to Hong Kong on Sunday, January 10, 2027, at Art Park in the West Kowloon Cultural District. The event invites people of different ages and abilities to take part in running and walking challenges, with family-friendly activities and special events for dogs adding to the day.
Global 6K for Water – A Global Run for Clean Water
Global 6K for Water — Registration for the Hong Kong event is NOW OPEN!Did you know? Worldwide, 2.1 billion people still lack access to safely managed drinking water^. Countless children and women are forced to walk an average of 6 kilometres every single day just to fetch water. Not only is this water often contaminated and hazardous to their health, but the grueling journey also deprives children of their precious time in school.
In response, World Vision launched the global charity event Global 6K for Water in 2015 — a movement dedicated to raising funds to build water infrastructure in water-scarce regions, delivering clean water and renewed hope to impoverished children across the globe. Spanning the Americas, Europe, and Asia, Hong Kong proudly joined this meaningful journey in 2024.
The six-kilometre distance represents the journey many children and women in water-scarce communities make to collect water. By taking part, participants help raise awareness of the challenges these families face and support World Vision’s work to provide water systems, wells and other essential facilities in African communities.
Every step can help bring clean water closer, giving children more opportunities to learn, play and grow up healthy. Find out how to join Global 6K for Water and support this important cause here.
