This year McHappy Day is on Saturday, 18th October 2014 and Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) are calling on all Australians to get behind the big day to help raise more than $3 million for the charity the equivalent of providing 23,000 families with a night of accommodation in a Ronald McDonald House.
All funds raised on McHappy Day go directly to RMHC to ensure it can continue providing much needed programs and services for seriously ill children and their families through programs such as Ronald McDonald House that provides families with a home-away-from-home while their child undergoes treatment for serious illness at a nearby hospital, which theyd otherwise need to pay for.
There are currently 14 Ronald McDonald Houses in Australia, but sadly hundreds of families are turned away each month as there arent enough rooms to accommodate them all. The funds raised through McHappy Day are used to help these Houses expand in order to help more families stay close during these challenging times.
Funds raised on the day also go towards other RMHC programs including Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, the Ronald McDonald Learning Program and the Ronald McDonald Family Retreats program.
McDonalds restaurants across the country will be a hub of activity on McHappy Day, as crew transform their restaurants with plenty of fun activities for the whole family. A number of Australian celebrities will also be donning their McHappy Day hats on the day to help raise awareness and funds across Australia.
Its easy for people to get behind the day and contribute by simply:
