Bulldogs Bowl For St Jude Childrens Hospital 2009: Charity Event

Bulldogs bowl for St Jude Childrens Hospital

Charity event is Saturday night at Empire Bowl REDLANDS – Five University of Redlands football players are helping put on a bowling charity event
to benefit St. Jude Children’s Hospital as part of the Benevolent Bulldog program. Seniors Brenden Barkate, Brian Putman, Jared Fink, Dan Selway and Matt Bean are organizing the event, which will be held at the Empire Bowl in Redlands from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29. “It’s part of a project that Coach Maynard and Coach Walker started at the university last year,” Barkate said. “They get volunteers from the football team, give them $100 seed money and then they go out into the community and try to make a difference.” Barkate, who participated in the program last year, said that he and his teammates tried to think of a team oriented event when they came up with bowling for charity. “I know about St. Jude through my dad, who has worked with them, and I know how hard they work for their cause,” Barkate said. “We wanted to give to an organization where 100 percent of the money would go right to the cause.”
It will be $100 per team, with teams being made up of five players. There will also be prizes, such as Dodger tickets and various gift cards, as well as a raffle, with all the money raised going directly to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
