3:00pm Saturday 15th August 2009 A TEAM of four from Wellington are to tackle The Great Lakeland Challenge, ominously named the longest, steepest and
highest charity event in England. The team, appropriately named The Somerset Levellers, all have a surveying background. They are competitors Robert Brown, Chris Keates and Kevin Bere and driver Daniel Bere. The challenge is run and organised by the charity Wooden Spoon and is set to take place on September 11 in the Lake District. The challenge begins with a 10.5 mile canoe along Lake Windermere, the longest lake in England.
A 26-mile cycle ride follows over three mountain passes including Wrynose and Hardknott passes. At 1:3 they are the steepest roads in England.
