Get involved CHARITIES and community groups could soon be benefiting from a cash boost.
The Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation is inviting people to nominate good causes to share in its annual week-long charity giveaway &ndash Make a Difference Week. Starting from today until Saturday, June 6, customers and members of the public can call into the society’s branch on The Hayes, Cardiff, to recommend a charity to receive a &pound50 donation. The Charitable Foundation was founded in 1998 and has since donated over &pound3m to more than 7,000 charities. It receives most of its funds through the Yorkshire’s innovative Small Change, Big Difference scheme where members donate pennies from the interest they receive on their accounts to make a huge pot of charity money and are then invited to join the scheme and suggest which charities should benefit from these funds. Manager Richard Locke said: “Make a Difference Week offers the Foundation the chance to support smaller, local charities that are often overlooked by large organisations but are important to the communities where our staff and members live and work. “Last year, more than 1,000 local good causes were nominated for support during a similar event which resulted in over &pound54,000 being donated.”
