The tournament is still five months away, but the organization running the Nationwide Tournament Championship at the Daniel Island Club has launched a novel
(at least for here) idea that hopefully will spark attendance and net a lot of money for local charities. All of the revenue from ticket sales is going back to local charities through what has been dubbed “Tickets Fore Charity.” Any 501c3 non-profit organization is invited to sell tickets with 100 percent of the ticket sales going back to that non-profit organization. If a charitable organization sells $1,000 worth of tickets, it receives $1,000. The idea is modeled after the Nationwide Tour event in Boise, Idaho, which last year raised more than $750,000 for local charities and has produced $2.4 million for Boise charities since its inception. Tickets for the Tour Championship are $30 for a weekly pass and $200 for a group rate of 10 people. Daily tickets will be available at the venue during the tournament for $10. Tournament organizers said a number of charities have already signed up to participate. All 501c3 non-profits are invited to learn about the program and register to participate at an introductory Tickets Fore Charity presentation from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday at The Daniel Island Club. RSVP to Margaret Shaw at (843) 849-3154 or e-mail . Charities can continue to register up until the beginning of the tournament. “The success of this premier golf tournament is built on community support, so we feel that the best way to give back to the Charleston area is through direct charitable donation of our ticket proceeds,” said tournament director Kevin Canning. The $1 million Nationwide Tour Championship, which will be played Oct. 19-25, is limited to the top 60 money winners going into the tournament with the top 25 on the money list after the event earning their PGA Tour playing privileges for 2010. The tournament is set for a three-year run at Daniel Island Club’s Ralston Creek Course. Women’s City Am
Entries are being accepted for the Charleston Women’s City Amateur and Ladies’ Senior Amateur tournament. The event is June 2-4 at Charleston Municipal Golf Course. The tournament is open to female amateurs 18 and older who have resided in Charleston, Berkeley or Dorchester counties since Jan. 1.
