During the event, Pookutty interacted with the children and helped them select Rs 500 worth of toys and stationery, for which the children had
received gift vouchers from the store.
When asked about any future endeavours that he has planned to further the cause, he said: “It is for the government and other organisations to improve the conditions these children live in. I would continue to do what I can.”
“I am trying to do a very simple thing, to promote this cause. If only we could all do such simple things, the world would be a better,” he added.
The children were, meanwhile, overwhelmed to meet the Oscar winner, all having watched Slumdog Millionaire. “We took pictures and autographs and bought so many toys. I did not have a piece of paper so I took the autograph on my hand” said Naseema, one of the children with Butterflies.
“If Slumdog was a fairytale, the lives of our children can also be so. With Resul’s presence, we can only hope that more people will get to know and join our cause,” said Rita Panicker, Director of Butterflies.
Javed Mohammed, the CEO of Store 99, said: “We are happy to help the children feel special, in whatever way we can.”
