Get involved THOUSANDS of women took their marks for the North East’s biggest all-female get-fit fundraiser.
More than 3,000 women, each with their own personal reasons for taking part, walked or ran the 5km course in a bid to raise as much money as possible for the charity. The race had turned into a family affair for cancer survivor Karen Hall, who was taking part with her 63-year-old mum and sister Joanne. The 42-year-old, of Low Fell, said: “I have had Cancer twice, so we’re doing the race to try and give something back to the charity which helped me. “My mum has also had Breast Cancer, so all three of us decided to take part, although my mum is walking it a bit nearer the back. “I’ve beaten cancer twice, so this is something very close to my heart and we want to raise as much money as possible. “It’s our fourth race and I think we’ve beaten our fastest time.”
Karen’s sister Joanne, 40, from Ashington, added: “I think the race is great &ndash the whole atmosphere is just fantastic.
