Afternoon concerts planned September Days Senior Center in Belleville will host Sunday afternoon concerts from 2-5 p.m.
until June 28. Grass of a Different color will perform May 10, The Radio Gang May 17, and Traver Creek Ramblers May 31. There will be no concert May 24 in observance of Memorial Day. Charity poker event planned A no-limit, Texas Hold ‘Em charity poker tournament is planned for 2 p.m. May 9 at the Belleville Moose Lodge 934 in Belleville. Registration will begin at noon. The buy in is $35 for the cash games. The lodge is located at 831 East Huron River Dr. For more information, call (734) 697-2111. Official plans coffee hour State Rep. Dian Slavens (D-Canton) will host a coffee hour for Belleville residents from 10-11 a.m. May 11 at September Days Senior Center. Slavens schedules regular coffee hours throughout Canton, Belleville and Van Buren to offer residents the opportunity to discuss issues of concern with her. The center is located at 46425 Tyler Road. Strawberry Queen Pageant moves The Strawberry Queen Pageant, part of the National Belleville Strawberry Festival, will take place on Main Street for the first time this year. The event is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. June 19 and is a free event. Contestants are girls between the ages of 16-20 who will represent Belleville as a positive role model. The queen and her court represent the city in local activities and participate in parades in Belleville, Sumpter, New Boston, Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor. The girls also volunteer at many community events. The Strawberry Festival Committee is currently soliciting donations to help fund the pageant. They welcome gift certificates, products or services offered by local businesses or financial support. Those who donate will be recognized during the pageant and included in the program. Reality Store seeks help The Belleville Area Women’s Club will present a Reality Store for eighth grade students at South Middle School from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. May 19. Members of the club and local volunteers will assist the students as they get a jolt of reality in the cost of daily living in the 21st century.
