A WORLD class chef who worked under Gordon Ramsay loaned her culinary skills for a dinner that raised more than £5,000 for charity.
Angela Hartnett, from ITV television show, Hell’s Kitchen, gave up her time to whip up a sumptuous five course dinner at the home of David and Debi Peppin in Cooper’s Hill Lane, Englefield Green on Friday, April 24. Mrs Peppin had bid £3,800 for Angela’s services as a prize at a charity auction at the Royal Berkshire Shooting Club, Pangbourne last September, the funds all going to Great Ormond Street Hospital. Mrs Peppin had the idea of using the evening’s culinary entertainment to help provide some further funds for Staines-based charity, Jade’s Rainbow Foundation a local charity that provides financial support for blind children with life threatening conditions. Guests were invited to the dinner on the knowledge they would be politely asked to make a modest contribution to the charity. Angela spoiled the guests with a menu consisting of foie gras mosaic, ravioli of crab, rack of lamb, cheese and baked chocolate pudding. Angela, who is a great supporter of Great Ormond Street Hospital said she was delighted the evening went on to raise another £1,500 in donations from guests for Jades Rainbow Foundation. Mrs Peppin said the evening had been a great success and she looked forward to repeating similar fundraising efforts.
She said: “It was absolutely brilliant, we didn’t finish until 4am and even Angela stayed around until midnight. Everybody chipped in, especially after having drunk lots of nice champagne.
