Riverside County chef launches Web site: Dave Schy, a longtime professional chef based in the Palm Desert, has launched the New Taste Journal Web
site (www.newtaste.com) with the goal of getting site visitors to think healthy. The Culinary Institute of America graduate has been cooking in restaurants in Chicago, L.A., Vail, Cancun and Santa Barbara since the early 1980s, but a few years ago decided he wasn’t cooking or eating healthfully. To lose weight and slash his cholesterol, he switched to a whole-grain, heart-healthy diet and created a recipe book of multigrain cereals, whole-wheat pancakes, soups, stews, wraps, desserts and other dishes. Schy said he first thought of writing a cookbook but felt a Web site would reach more people. The ad-free site isn’t a money-making venture, but an outreach program to get people cooking healthier by eating less meat, cheese and processed sugars and more vegetables and grains.
