IN MEMORY: Caitlin Major, who lost her battle with cancer last June.
Caitlin’s Big Day Out is back. The day-long event held in September 2007 to raise money for sick Hamilton schoolgirl Caitlin Major has been resurrected by her father Sean, even though the little girl lost her battle with cancer last year. To be held on March 7, four days after Caitlin would have turned 8, the day of music, food and fun aims to raise money for Waikato charity True Colours. The non-profit organisation, which supports children, young people, and their families who live with chronic, serious or life-threatening illnesses, was a tower of strength for the family after Caitlin died in June 2008. “I don’t think we could have got through without them to be honest,” Mr Major said. “And they offer you support for years afterwards.” Caitlin’s Big Day Out at The Cook Cafe and Bar in Hamilton East kicks off at 10am with an Irish breakfast followed by a musical jam session at 11am.
After that nine Irish music bands from the Waikato and Auckland including Mr Major’s resident band of The Cook Hair of the Dog together with Shenanigans, Doctor Bob and the Englishman, Sean Kelly and Friends, and The Bollocks Cousins, plus others will play all day.
