Close-up Correspondent Given a morning off work, Davis County businessman Bob Aamodt would rather be schussing down the slopes than anywhere else.
So when he and his brother decided in 2007 to organize a fundraiser for a charity, they looked beyond the traditional golf links to the mountains to the east. “I might as well do something I like to do,” said Aamodt of Bob Aamodt Inc., a financial advisory firm in Farmington. “I want to do something I’m passionate about.” “Everyone gets invited to dozens of golf tournaments all summer long. (This is) a different angle and a different time of year to benefit a charity.” That first fundraising ski tournament attracted 50 skiers. This year, Aamodt expects about 150. The second annual Vertical Challenge is Feb. 27 at Snowbasin Ski Resort. Proceeds benefit the Trapper Trails Council of the Boys Scouts of America. Four-man ski or snowboard teams will race for the most vertical feet in three hours, with prizes awarded to the two teams with the most vertical feet, most money raised, the team with the best costume and the last place finisher.
There will also be a raffle drawing.
