Linda McGill, the first woman to swim the English Channel has sold her swimming medals to pay for cancer related surgery.
The medals went up for auction and were sold to the National Maritime Museum for $20 000.
Linda McGill had a massively successful marathon swimming career and won gold medals at the Commonwealth Games and at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics alongside fellow swimming champ Dawn Fraser.
It’s a shame that Linda McGill has had to sell her swimming medals, but she is happy to have them on display for all the public to appreciate.
