Fred Hollows has earned sixth place in a survey of favourite Australians, done through the ABC.
The charity icon was voted in after Olivia Newton John, Peter Cundall, John Farnham, Bob Brown and John Howard, and is now part of the My Favourite Australian video portrait exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra.
‘It’s just such a special honour to know there are still people out there who remember Fred and who still think what he did was pretty good,’ said a very humble Gabi Hollows about her late husband.
Gough Whitlam, Sir William Deane, Johnny Warren and Tim Costello also made the My Favourite Australian top ten with Fred Hollows.
