25000 fans gather for Minis 50th birthday

Silverstone, England – Some 25,000 fans from more than 40 countries attended the third Mini United Festival in Silverstone, England last weekend, bringing more
than 10,000 cars to celebrate the brand’s 50th birthday. Participants from Germany, Russia, the U.S. and South Africa made the trek to the event, which included racing, a music festival and celebrity appearances. As part of the world premiere for the new Mayfair and Camden special models, 75-year-old British style icon Mary Quant revealed that when she designed the first miniskirt, she named it not for the garment’s length, but for the name of the car. Paul Weller, frontman of legendary bands The Jam and The Style Council and now a solo artist, appeared at the event.
