Now you can help build homes without having to don a hard hat.
The Alachua County Habitat for Humanity will hold its 2009 Signature Event on Sept. 25 to help raise money to build homes for families in need. Tickets are on sale for $90 for the charity gala titled “From Plans to Homes” being held at the Sweetwater Branch Inn from 7 to 10 p.m. The night will feature live music, dancing, food and an open bar, according to Merry Lucas, event chairwoman. “It’s going to be a fun night and an easy way to support Habitat,” Lucas said. Along with entertainment, a live and silent auction will sell a variety of items, such as hand bags and weekend getaways. The charity gala is in its third year and has raised about $10,000 for each event, according to Peg Iwata, interim executive director for Alachua County Habitat for Humanity.
The last two events were smaller, with about 70 to 75 attendees, Iwata said. This year they hope to triple that amount with 250 tickets up for sale.
