Aislinn Hull UK 2009: Into Music

Aislinn Hull UK

How did you get into music ’ve sang pretty much my whole life, probably ever since the moment I could talk actually, and wrote
my own songs about toothbrushes, trees, the things that matter when you’re a kid! But it wasn’t until I was 11 and I took up the drums that I really got into music seriously. Around the same age I was given an old guitar by a friend (I like to think I saved it as it was originally going to be thrown out), learned a Green Day song and everything just went from there. The singing and playing guitar just captured me so to speak and I guess music saved me. Did you do music at school Yeah! I wasn’t really interested in much else at school to be honest. I was a bit of a rum ‘un as they say here up north, and music for me was a way of escaping. I couldn’t stand subjects which were too scientific and things which had a definite answer, I much preferred having room for creativity, I still do. I did music at GCSE which helped me learn a lot about the different sides of music, and really regretted not doing the A level so next year I’m going to try and cram it all into one year, which, I know it’ll be tough but I like being challenged. What was it about being a musician that made you say ‘yeah, this is for me’ I think for me it’s the effect that music has on me. I sometimes wonder, are people hearing it the way I’m hearing it You know, there’s a way that a certain chord or shift in the beat can capture me and give me the goosebumps. I’m a real musical geek.
I guess we are a species of our own, musicians, and I just like being part of that club. Musician’s hours are always a bonus too. I’m a real night owl and find it impossible to get up early, I just can’t imagine myself doing the old nine to five.
