Altoona Curve Altoona Mirror Team Up For Charity 2009: Unique Style

Altoona Curve Altoona Mirror Team Up For Charity

The unique style jersey is spelled without the “h” at the end of Pittsburgh, as the city did not recognize the spelling of Pittsburgh
with an “h” from 1890 through 1911. Throughout the game, fans will have the opportunity to participate in a silent auction to bid on the jerseys worn by Curve players. All proceeds raised from the event will benefit a local charity – A Season for Sharing. Winning bidders will have a chance to meet the Curve player whose jersey they bid on and will have the opportunity to have that player sign the jersey. The Altoona Mirror Season of Sharing is a fundraiser that aims to combine the power of the local newspaper, the expertise of the Central Pennsylvania Community Foundation and the generosity of central Pennsylvanians. The fundraiser culminates each holiday season and the money raised is given to a different local charity each year. The 2009 recipient will be selected in September. Previous recipients have been the local chapter of the Armed Forces Mothers, the Brian Morden Foundation, the Jaffa Shrine Hospitals and the Gloria Gates Foundation. “This is a great way to celebrate one of the most exciting World Series ever played,” said Curve General Manager Rob Egan. “Then to team up with our award-winning, hometown newspaper to benefit a very good cause makes it even more special. The 1909 series featured a fierce, head-to-head matchup with two of the all-time greats in Honus Wagner of the Pirates and Ty Cobb of the Tigers.” Sunday’s game will also feature a baseball card poster giveaway to the first 2,000 fans through the gates with nine different Curve players wearing the 1909 jerseys. Great seats for Sunday’s 3:05 p.m. game against the SeaWolves are still on sale and can be obtained by calling 877-99-CURVE to speak to a Curve ticketing associate, online at or in person at the Blair County Ballpark press box.
