A KEGWORTH woman claims animal rights protesters have tried to scare her off from holding a charity dance to raise money for a leading
cancer charity. The event will go ahead at the Yew Lodge Hotel in Kegworth on July 18 and will include a luxury buffet, Take That tribute band, disco and raffle prizes. Leaflets have gone around the village publicising the evening and Mrs Locke says if it is a success she plans to hold further events to raise money for cancer charities through an online organisation she has set up called Party4Life. But last week she was stunned, when the hotel received animal rights publicity material claiming Cancer Relief UK carried out animal testing. Hotel manager Chris Bloomberg said he had contacted the police as a precaution. He said it was not clear who had sent the material. Mrs Locke said the incident had made her even more determined to carry on with the event: This had made me even more determined than ever. We are not letting people like that stop us us trying to raise money for a worthy cause. I dont condone testing on animals but were talking about trying to save human life here from a horrific disease.
