11 is accepting early registrations for swimming lessons at pools on the East side of Houma. Registrations will be taken from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. today-Thursday at 124 Boundary Road, Houma. Lessons begin June 1. For information, call 850-4699. The Terrebonne Parish Library System’s summer reading program for teens, themed “Express Yourself,” begins today at libraries throughout Terrebonne. The teen reading program includes special events and craft workshops. Coupons for free items can be earned by reading just three books or magazines. Teens can sign up at their local library branches. The Terrebonne Parish Library System’s Summer Reading Club, themed “Once Upon a Time,” begins today at branches throughout Terrebonne. Children in pre-school through the sixth grades who read 10 books each (or have the books read to them if they cannot yet read) receive a certificate and coupons for free items from area businesses. Story times and arts-and-craft workshops will be offered each week, along with professional entertainment for the whole family as part of the club. Register to join the club at your local library branch. The Terrebonne Parish Library System’s third-annual Adult Summer Reading Program, themed “Master the Art of Reading,” begins today at library branches throughout Terrebonne. Adults ages 18 and up can pick up a reading log at any of the library branches. Prizes and incentives will be available again through the program. The Terrebonne General Medical Center’s OutReach Center, inside Southland Mall in Houma, will offer a program on childhood obesity at 5:30 p.m. today. The program, for concerned parents of children with weight problems, includes a guest speaker who will address healthy-eating guidelines for children along with meal-preparation tips. A physical therapist will review physical-activity guidelines. RSVP to 858-7020. The Matthew 25 disaster-response program, a part of Catholic Charities Houma-Thibodaux, will hold a training session for current and new Matthew 25 members at 6 tonight at the St. Bridget Community Center in Schriever 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Sacred Heart Cafeteria in Morgan City and 6 p.m. Thursday at the Annunziata Cafeteria in Houma.
