TWO brothers have gone that extra mile to coin in cash for ex-servicemen and women by walking the West Highland Way.
Grant and Tam Smith, who are both former soldiers, tackled the challenging task to raise money for the Erskine charity. The Linwood men trekked across a total of 95 miles of rugged countryside from Milngavie to Fort William, generating the more than healthy sum of &xA31,300 for the veterans&x2019 charity as they went. Grant, 50, served as a platoon sergeant instructor in the 1st Battalion of the Royal Highland Fusiliers &x2013 now known as 2 Scots &x2013 while 47-year-old Tam was a staff sergeant mechanic with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. The brothers &x2013 who come from a family of nine &x2013 were given plenty of support from friends, relatives and workmates ahead of their charity challenge. Grant, who now works as a transport supervisor at Erskine, said: &x201CTam and I had been hoping to tackle the West Highland Way for years but we finally got it organised.
&x201CTam suggested that we should raise money for Erskine as we went.
