12:37pm Friday 14th August 2009 ELEVEN-month-old Scott Holder lost his fight against a rare and incurable DNA disorder in the early hours of this
morning. Surrounded by his family, the tiny tot took his last breath in his mum’s arms at 2.45am. Just over two weeks ago little Scott had been doing well enough to be taken off his ventilator and was taken out of intensive care but he took a turn for the worse earlier this week. Scott had mitochondrial cytopathy, which is a name given to a range of conditions when the mitochondria do not work properly.
The mitochondria convert food into energy and without them the organs and the rest of the body cannot function properly.
