Ball Raises 40000 For Charity 2009: United Dairy

Ball raises 40000 for charity

The United Dairy Women’s annual Milk Lover’s Ball raised $40,000 for local children’s charities — more than double last year’s proceeds.
President of United Dairy Women Michelle Heavyside said the money will be distributed between local children’s homes, the back pack program with the Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico, general agriculture and dairy science scholarship programs. Heavyside said the event sold out two weeks in advance of the ball and people came as far as Holland to learn about the dairy industry in Clovis. Feb. 13, 1947
A burning tumbleweed that blew into a 60-yard-long puddle of waste highway asphalt oil along the Santa Fe railway started a large blaze that was quickly put out. Section hands had been burning off the right of way near the fairgrounds when the incident happened.
