Malcolm Day and Troy Barbagallo’s highly anticipated white collar boxing re-match ended in a draw on Friday night.
Day’s efforts to even the score between the two after losing last year ended in disappointment for the adultshop.com boss, who immediately challenged Barbagallo to an additional two rounds in the ring in an effort to settle the score. But Barbagallo, exhausted and laying on the floor after the intense hard-hitting fight, had no desire to grant his wish. The Royal Queensbury Corporate Challenge black tie event, held at the Burswood Grand Ballroom, attracted a crowd filled with Perthonalities keen to watch as lawyers, a dentist, identical twins, a Miss Universe finalist and other corporate types turned tough with the help of champion boxer Erin McGowan, who trained them for the three-round matches. The opening bout between blondes Renae Wauhop, a beauty pageant favourite and former state martial arts champion versus socialite Amanda Spencer did not disappoint. Wauhop entered the ring with a posse of male dancers wearing pink hot pants and went on to win the fierce match. Spencer was later named fighter of the night for the tough battle she put up. In its second year, the event cemented its place as one of the highlights of the social calendar. In the crowd were Eagles ruckman Dean Cox, film star and ex-fighter Rai Fazio, Rhonda and Luke Wyllie and Sam Druce.
More than $100,000 was raised for children’s charity ToyBox during the evening which was hosted by Adrian Barich.
