Bathurst Golf Courses Set To Tee Off Charity Events 2009: Golf Courses

Bathurst golf courses set to tee off charity events

With both golf courses in the city up and running for another season, several charity events are set to tee off in the coming
weeks. One of the more high profile events of the summer is the Titan Molson Celebrity Golf Tournament, set for June 12 at Gowan Brae Golf and Country Club. Last year’s tourney saw more than $7,800 turned over to minor sports initiatives in the Bathurst region. That included assistance for several minor hockey teams in the area, along with help for youth who otherwise would not have been able to afford registration for minor hockey programs. Among those expected this year is former Acadie-Bathurst Titan defenceman Jonathan Girard. He spent parts of five seasons with the National Hockey League’s Boston Bruins before his hockey career came to an end as the result of injuries sustained in a car accident. Other current and former Titan players expected to participate include Adam Russo, Thomas Beauregard, Cameron Critchlow, Remi Blanchard, Eric Faille, Taylor Lambke and Vincent Couture. The list of celebrities also includes goaltender Vincent Riendeau, who played eight seasons in the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens, St. Louis Blues, Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins Gilles Lupien, who claimed two Stanley Cups with the Montreal Canadiens in the 1970s before finishing his career with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Hartford Whalers Lewiston MAINEiacs head coach Don MacAdam, who won a Stanley Cup ring as a member of the Edmonton Oilers coaching staff and Campbellton’s John LeBlanc, who spent parts of seven NHL seasons with the Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers and Winnipeg Jets. RELAY FOR LIFE
The nine-hole Squire Green Golf Course is gearing up for a fundraiser for the Relay for Life Chaleur on June 7. (The actual Relay for Life fundraiser for the fight against cancer is in Pointe-Verte on June 12.)
