Like all of us at one stage in our lives, she’s obviously gone through the closet and realized that maybe some of those spontaneous buys were a big mistake, and Bette Midler is having an auction to palm off some of those priceless little numbers onto us.
The auction will be held in honor of the Divine Miss M’s 60th birthday and the proceeds will go to the New York Restoration Project (NYRP), which she herself founded in 1995 believing in a better quality of life for every community in New York, through the simple act of restoring and developing greener, flourishing parks.
In partnership with the city, state and federal agencies, Bette and NYRP have removed over 875 tons of garbage from park sites reclaimed more than 400 acres of abandoned and under-resourced parkland along the major New York river banks rescued uncountable amounts of community gardens from commercial development provided free recreational and environmental education programs for more than 8,000 at-risk urban youth and created a huge five-acre public park, the Peter Jay Sharp Boathouse at Swindler Cove Park, on the site of what was once an un-enforced illegal dumping ground.
So, with all that the NYRP can achieve, it would be hard to walk past this auction without at least blinking. Well with Bette providing her own colorfully-magnificentrare clothing and costumes it would be hard to walk past without blinking just from the spectacle alone.
The NYRPBette Midler auction is being held April 27 to May 8, to fund projects for Bette’s Rose Garden, located across the road from the Roberto Clemente Intermediate School in the South Bronx.
