Bikers get set to cruise for a worthy cause

Registration is from 8 until 11 a.m.
and kickstands are up for departure at 11:30 a.m. Escorted by Trike Masters Motorcycle Club and the Newark Police, the motorcade will travel down Central Avenue and then onto Broad Street to bring awareness to those passing by. The ride ends with a cookout and other activities at Spruce Run Recreational Facility 68 Van Syckels Rd. in Clinton. The event ends at 4 p.m. Last year, BABC, Inc. reached its goal and distributed more than $10,000 to applicant referred by the American Cancer Society and other support agencies. “This was a huge milestone, but we still have a lot of work to do,” said, Shelia Green-Barnhill, founder and chief executive officer. Unlike some other cancer support organizations, BABC provides a unique service to the community by giving mini-grants of up to $300 to help pay for a household bill. In addition, you don’t have to be a biker, or live in New Jersey to receive the group’s help. BABC also assists all individuals living with cancer, regardless of the type. “This year our fundraising is critical for the survival of our mission because we have applications on our waiting list totaling over $20,000,” Green-Barnhill added. “Sometimes I worry about our program because the need is so great, but I am hopeful that even in these tough times, people will open their hearts and give generously.”
In addition to working as the property manager for Society Hill East Condominium Association, a 414 unit condo community, Green-Barnhill and Vice President Andrew Andino, fundraise every month by traveling to different motorcycle events and vending novelty items and apparel to raise money to keep the program going.
