Bloody Long Walk – Mornington Peninsula

Walk. Fundraise. Conquer. Make an Impact.

Mitochondrial diseases, also known as mito diseases, are a group of rare genetic disorders that affect the mitochondria, the energy-producing organelles within our cells. These disorders result from mutations in the DNA of either the mitochondria themselves or the nuclear DNA that controls mitochondrial function. Mito diseases can manifest in various ways, affecting multiple organ systems and causing a wide range of symptoms. Common symptoms include muscle weakness, fatigue, neurological problems, developmental delays, and organ dysfunction. Due to the diversity of symptoms and the complexity of mitochondrial function, diagnosing and treating mito diseases can be challenging. Ongoing research aims to deepen our understanding of these disorders and develop effective therapies to improve the quality of life for affected individuals.

One organization that is dedicated to raising awareness and funds for mitochondrial diseases is The Bloody Long Walk. This charity organizes challenging walking events of 35-70 kilometers to support research and provide support to individuals and families affected by mito diseases.

The Bloody Long Walk – Mornington Peninsula is just around the corner, and it promises to be an incredible fundraising event. Participants will embark on a scenic walking journey through the beautiful Mornington Peninsula while raising vital funds to support mitochondrial disease research and support programs.
