Boxing Young Fighters Showcase Their Talents 2009: It Mixed

Boxing Young fighters showcase their talents

IT was a mixed night for the young Monklands boxers who showcased their skills at Airdrie Town Hall onFriday.
Members of Airdrie’s Four Isles and Coatbridge’s Barn clubs took part in the second charity boxing evening in aid of Yorkhill Children’s Foundation. In front of a crowd of more than 400, some keenly-fought bouts were contested as thousands of pounds was raised for charity. Kicking-off the evening was a local clash between Elliot O’Donnell of the Four Isles and the Barn’s Lucas Ferguson. The first round went to Ferguson but a strong right to the head from his opponent had him wobbling in the second. O’Donnell then finished the round with a good left but following a tense third, Ferguson won an 11-9 decision in his favour. The gutsy fighter came out of the corner all guns blazing and had opponent Thomas Carr, of Kirkintilloch, on the floor twice in the first round.
Shaw continued his relentless assault on poor Carr, who was unable to counter the punches raining down on him.
