Most people know that diabetes affects how the body uses insulin, but understanding the key difference between its two main types can reveal why organizations like Breakthrough T1D are so crucial. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune condition where the immune system mistakenly destroys insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, meaning those with T1D must rely on insulin injections for life. Unlike Type 2 diabetes, which often develops due to lifestyle factors and can sometimes be managed through diet and exercise, T1D has no prevention method or cure.
Breakthrough T1D is dedicated to advancing T1D research and improving the lives of those living with the disease. This year, they are hosting the 24th Annual Breakthrough T1D Charlotte Gala on April 5, 2025, at The Revelry North End. Attendees can enjoy an evening of cocktails, a multi-course dinner, and silent and live auctions, with proceeds going directly to support essential T1D research. Join this inspiring event to help drive the vision of turning “Type One into Type None.”
