one of the many performers you can see at the 10th annual cabaret show at the Gaythorne Hall in Methuen this weekend, hosted by the Miracle Providers Northeast — a charity that provides materials to children affected by HIV/AIDS. Clermont founded the organization 16 years ago in New Bedford, before moving to Methuen, where he found a “need for a stronger support network” of families affected by the disease. The nonprofit organization works with local HIV agencies to help more than 300 children each year. The children, both “infected and affected by HIV” are given the opportunity to attend summer camp, as well as some basic necessities. Above all, the Miracle Providers work to raise awareness for the disease. Everything, from feather boas to wigs, from programs to set design, is donated to the charity. Clermont recruits some of the biggest names in cabaret to put on the weekend drag show. The shows also feature professional performers who travel from New York and Florida to help the cause. Last year, the event raised more than $22,000, and Clermont is optimistic for another great turnout.
“We get a great, predominantly straight audience that watches us parade around in dresses and frills,” he said. “Everyone has fun.”
