EVERY seat in Wrexham’s Racecourse ground will be occupied for a special event next month &ndash but the club will not receive a penny.
&ScaronThe reason being all 11,500 seats will be filled by just three people in a charity marathon which will take several hours to complete. On Monday, March 2, Gerry Humphreys, activities co-ordinator at the Pendine Park care organisation group, will be joined by two colleagues, care practitioners Tracy King and Becky Griffiths, in a mass sit-down. Far from being an idle protest, however, the “Bums on Seats” will be a co-ordinated effort to raise money for the local branch of the Alzheimer’s Society. &ScaronThe three aim to sit in every seat in the Blue Square Premier League club’s stadium. Gerry, who has been activities co-ordinator for the past five years, is always dreaming of new ways to raise money and asked Phil Sadler, the club’s commercial manager, for ideas. Phil said: “I mentioned that when the club was in administration a couple of years ago two local lads raised money for the club by sitting in every seat.
“It took about 10 hours to complete, but Gerry still thought it was a great idea.”
