It was a lively event at Park Place Lexus in Plano, with hundreds of folks in formal wear.
Most of the Stars players were in attendance, dealing cards at blackjack tables or cheering on players at the roulette wheel. A few notes from the event: • No player posed for more pictures than Mike Ribeiro. It seemed that he couldn’t move very far in any of the rooms without stopping and smiling for a camera. “I don’t mind at all,” said a smiling Ribeiro. • Daryl “Razor” Reaugh was a big hit. Not a surprise there. It was clear he had dealt cards before and was sharing jokes all night. • Marty Turco had his blackjack table cracking up as he looked at both of his cards and then, not so subtly, told the players at his table what do. He certainly couldn’t get a job in Las Vegas. The “offcial dealer” watched with a disapproving look. • The silent auction items, with the money going to charity, seemed to be doing well. I heard one person comment that he was pleasantly surprised given the state of the economy. So that’s good for some worthy charities. • Steve Ott was really enjoying himself. Asked if he knew what he was doing at the blackjack table, Ott responded: “I don’t have a clue.” But it seemed that everyone at his table was increasing his or her chip stack.
