Together We Cope partnering with churches: Bags of emergency food supplies are headed for an Oak Forest church in a new partnership with Together
We Cope designed to reach area residents in need at multiple sites. Faith United Methodist Church, which has supported the agency for many years, is the first to sign up for the new Outreach Emergency Food program. The agency will deliver grocery bags filled with nonperishable food items to the church every week for distribution to families seeking emergency assistance from the church. The agency, which helps families in crisis from 22 south suburbs, serves 45 families each day at its food pantry in Tinley Park. Mary Ann Baer, Together We Cope director of development, said the agency hopes to establish similar partnerships with other churches in order to make it easier for families in need to get immediate response when they need food. Back to school fair: Bloom Township and the Police Athletic League of Illinois will host a “Back-to-School Free Fair” for students in need from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Prairie State College, 202 S. Halsted St., Chicago Heights. The day will feature free services such as haircuts, dental and medical checkups, dental supplies, back-to-school supplies, T-shirts and hot dog lunches. Parents also will be able to enroll in free local service programs and will receive safety and gang prevention literature. Lincoln-Way golf outing to raise funds for special recreation: The Lincoln-way Special Recreation Association will host its second annual golf outing Aug. 26 at the Sanctuary Golf Course, 485 N. Marley Road, New Lenox. The day of golf will include food, beverages and prizes.
The driving range opens at 10 a.m. during registration with a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided at the turn, and a dinner reception will start after the last foursome has finished.
