It’s a local charity my wife and I became involved with a number of years ago, and we’ve had other football matches and a Christmas ball as well. Wickham will also have a legend in their dugout in the shape of the club’s record outfield appearance maker Keith Peacock. A former midfielder and assistant manager among a multitude of roles over many years at the club, Peacock is currently an honorary associate director at The Valley. His side will come up against the likes of Colin Walsh, Andy Jones, Sasa Ilic, Leroy Ambrose, Peter Garland and Paul Gorman – and there may be some surprise guests at the event. Added Lee: “We used to have a team called Wickham United, and some of us have played together for 15 years now. Whenever we play in a tournament we use the same name. “We’ve got a few young lads in there, and a few ringers as well, which I think we might need. We’ll certainly give it our best shot.
“It will be good for the kids, too, to come down to the training ground and play. There will be a barbeque, lots of little stalls, face painting and a tombola. We are also trying to get a fire engine down, as well.”
