Charity Doesnt Have To Be Tough 2009: Making Difference

Charity doesnt have to be tough

Making a difference is easier than you might think.
And starting in September, United Way of Quinte staff and volunteers will be spreading the word as they begin their annual fundraising campaign. Whether you want to donate on your own or organize an event at work, charity organizers say it doesn’t have to be difficult. “This year more than ever is one where we really need folks to step up,” United Way of Quinte executive director Julia Gosson said Monday at the William Street office. Any dollar amount helps, she said. Normally tax receipts are issued for donations of $10 or more, but any amount is eligible upon request. Businesses are key to the campaign’s success, Gosson said. “Companies can do things that don’t necessarily cost them anything,” she said. “The premise of United Way is a lot of people doing a little bit.”
Employees of some businesses allow their payroll departments to deduct a dollar a week for the United Way. Charity staff will even approach your employees for you, Gosson said.
