Charity Founder Celebrated For His Work Feeding Children 2009: Anchorage Alaska

Charity founder celebrated for his work feeding children

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — People in Anchorage gathered to not only celebrate Black History Month on Saturday, but also to honor one man who is
a living example of what it stands for. The Fairview Recreation Center hosted a community event with the theme “Here We Were, Where We Are,” and also recognized the father of Kids' Kitchen, a local charity with the motto “no child should go hungry.” Elgin Jones started Kids' Kitchen in 1996 and since then the charity has served over 1 million meals to Anchorage children. He turned 69 on Saturday. “It's as important as breath itself to eat nutritious foods, and for kids to eat good while they can, because they're in their formative years and they need good food,” Jones said. “So today is just a big celebration of history, but also of him. He's turning 69, his 1 millionth meal served, so we're just trying to get everyone together and just have a good time and just celebrating that he's still going,” Avonda Perry said.
The celebration included games and crafts as well as entertainment by local artists.
