Campuses across the company hold massive letter-writing campaigns, asking people to donate to the charity.
On Aug. 2, Chico organizers won awards for outstanding fundraising event, overall program, program advisers and fundraising total. The campus was working to break $200,000, and ended up raising about $204,000, the most of the 200 campuses that take part. Chico has been involved since 2001 and has raised more than $880,000. Larry Bassow, an adviser to the program, said it was fun for students to attend the awards event, because “we felt like we won the Oscars.” When students are at these events, organizers from other schools want to learn as much as they can about how to run a successful fundraising campaign. Nine schools, including Chico State, were asked to provide displays. “It was a very proud moment to see everyone else checking out Chico,” he said. He said at times there were up to “50 kids clambering around it.”
The event has become a “rallying point” for the campus. And because so many people take part, it’s an accomplishment for which all involved can
