SIERRA VISTA — Members of the Filipino-American Club of Southern Arizona celebrated their culture and faith Saturday evening with the annual celebration Santacruzan.
Celebrated in May, a month dedicated to the Virgin Mary in the Catholic tradition, the Santacruzan commemorates the finding of the Holy Cross that Jesus Christ died upon. According to tradition, the Cross was rediscovered by Helena, the mother of Constantine. “There was a time when the Holy Cross was lost. They found it in Jerusalem and they returned it to Rome,” said Dorothy “Dot” Carampatan. “It’s actually a religious and an historical event. Carampatan is the president of the club.
