The Condors single highest grossing event, the Condors Fighting Cancer Hockey-Thon, was comprised of nearly 200 individuals coming together for a 41-hour hockey marathon which featured youth and adult hockey games, a Condors Alumni game and two Condors games. When the 41 hours came to an end, the Condors help to raise $41,000 for Links for Life, a local breast cancer resource center. On five occasions this season the Condors held a “Jersey Off Our Backs Auction.” The three live specialty jersey auctions and two online jersey auctions brought in a combined total of over $78,700. The proceeds were donated to the Ronald McDonald House, Boys and Girls Clubs of Kern County, Petroleum Shrine Club, Active 20/30 Club, and other area non-profits. To encourage our local youth to strive for educational excellence, the Condors provided students with the opportunity to take part in one of two educational programs, the T.H.I.N.K. program and Classroom Champions. More than 7,000 students met the educational goals set forth in the program, thus earning admission to a Condors game as a reward. One grand prize winner was also selected and won a brand-new computer as part of the T.H.I.N.K. program. During the season, the Condors made over 150 community appearances and assisted more than 300 non-profit organizations in raising funds. The Condors players, coaches, mascots and front office staff participated in events such as Adopt-A-Highway, Habitat for Humanity, the Special Olympics, Read Across America, career days and hospital visits, just to name a few.
